Hydroxyapatite is a calcium-phosphate mineral (INCI: Hydroxyapatite), the same compound that builds tooth enamel and bone. In cosmetics it works as a fine powder that adds opacity, mattifies the skin and gives a soft finish to creams, foundations and powder products. On efficacy, this is a functional, texture ingredient, not a skincare active. It improves how a formula looks and soaks up some shine, but it does not treat wrinkles, pigmentation or acne. Read it that way on a label: it has a technical job. Applied topically the mineral is not meaningfully absorbed, so it is fine to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good. Irritation and allergy potential are low, which makes it suitable for sensitive skin. As an inert particle it also tends not to clog pores.
