Steareth-2 is an ethoxylated ether of stearyl alcohol used as a nonionic emulsifier. It binds the oil phase to the water phase and, paired with more highly ethoxylated emulsifiers, forms stable creams with a rich, consistent feel. This is a functional formula ingredient, not a skincare active. It does not hydrate or repair skin on its own; its job is to hold the emulsion together. Treating it as an ingredient with its own skin benefit would be misleading. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so its use during pregnancy and breastfeeding poses no problem. Tolerance is good. Irritation and allergy potential are low, so it suits sensitive skin. At usual concentrations most people notice no reaction.
