Polyquaternium-47 (INCI: Polyquaternium-47) is a cationic conditioning polymer. It forms a light film on skin, smooths the surface, and gives the formula stability and a pleasant feel. This is a functional ingredient, not a skincare active. It improves sensory feel and leaves skin smooth to the touch, but that effect is surface-level: it does not treat wrinkles or pigment. Its role is support and texture. Because of its topical use and lack of meaningful systemic uptake, it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without restriction. Tolerance is good. Irritation and allergy potential are both low, so it fits sensitive skin. Most skin accepts it without a reaction.
