Stearyl beeswax (INCI: Stearyl Beeswax) is a beeswax derivative modified with stearyl alcohol. Its job in a formula is to thicken the oil phase and give body and firmness to creams, balms and sticks. It is a functional texture component, not a care active. Its work is structural: it gives the product consistency and a stable feel. It is not meant to treat skin, beyond the mild occlusive effect typical of waxes. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good and the allergy potential is low. Its comedogenicity is very low (1 out of 5), so it also fits oily skin. Anyone with a known allergy to beeswax or other bee products should keep it in mind, though reactions are rare.
