PEG-8 Beeswax is beeswax modified with ethylene oxide (8 units). That modification makes it partly water-soluble, so it combines the roles of a structural wax and a mild emulsifier. In formulas it binds the oil and water phases and gives body and consistency to creams and sticks. It is a functional component, not a care active. It does not treat skin signs; its role is emulsifier and texture modifier. It helps the product stay stable and feel pleasant to apply. For topical use there is no meaningful systemic absorption, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without concern. It is well tolerated: irritation and allergy potential are low, and it suits sensitive skin. Its comedogenicity is low (1 out of 5), a small risk. On very oily or acne-prone skin it is worth judging the whole formula, since emollient waxes can be somewhat occlusive at high concentrations.
