Behenyl beeswax (INCI: Behenyl Beeswax) is a beeswax derivative modified with long-chain behenyl alcohol. In a formula it works as an oil-phase thickener: it structures, adds body and helps hold firm textures in sticks, balms and rich creams. It is a functional component, not a care active. Its role is purely structural. It lets the product keep its shape and a consistent feel, without a cosmetic effect of its own on skin beyond the mild sealing of emollients. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good and the allergy potential is low, more restrained than unmodified beeswax. Its comedogenicity is very low (1 out of 5). Anyone with a known allergy to bee products should keep it in mind, though reactions are uncommon.
