Undecylenamidopropyl Betaine (INCI: Undecylenamidopropyl Betaine) is an amphoteric surfactant derived from undecylenic acid. In a formula it cleanses and foams, and it usually accompanies stronger surfactants to soften the blend in shampoos and gels, including products for sensitive scalp. It is a functional cleansing ingredient, not a treatment active. Its role is to gently lift oil and dirt and improve foam, with no claim to care for or repair the skin beyond washing. In rinse-off topical use it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without concern. Tolerance is good: it is a mild surfactant with low irritation and allergy, suitable for sensitive skin and scalp. It dries far less than sulfates.
