Sodium lauroamphoacetate (INCI Sodium Lauroamphoacetate) is an amphoteric surfactant. In a formula it works as a mild cleansing surfactant and foam stabiliser: it helps remove dirt and oil, builds a dense lather and softens the action of harsher anionic surfactants. It is common in shampoos, shower gels, baby washes and foaming cleansers. This is a functional part of the cleansing system, not a care active. It does not feed the skin; its job is cleansing and a comfortable foam. Amphoteric surfactants are valued precisely for their mildness. When applied and rinsed off, the ingredient has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without restriction. Tolerance is good. The harshness is rated mild, with low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin and scalp. It does not strongly dry the skin, especially paired with base surfactants. Most people show no reaction.
