Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate is the sodium salt of a condensate of lauric acid and glutamic acid. INCI: Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate. One of the mildest commercial surfactants, sold under the Amisoft brand (Ajinomoto). In cosmetics it works as a primary or co-surfactant in cleansers, shampoos and shower gels. By harshness it belongs to the ULTRA_MILD class – significantly milder than glucosides and many times milder than SLS. It does not dry the skin, does not disrupt skin or hair pH and barrier. Produces a creamy dense foam. Use levels run from 5 to 30% active material in wash bases. Pregnancy safety. There is no systemic absorption from rinse-off use. The molecule is hydrophilic and does not linger on the skin. Skin profile. Very low irritation potential, low allergen risk. Non-comedogenic. Suitable for sensitive, atopic, rosacea-prone and pediatric skin. Often used in cleansers for couperose and rosacea. No active cosmetic effects, but by preserving the lipid barrier it leaves the skin feeling comfortable after cleansing.
