It cleanses very gently and keeps the product pH close to the skin's, which is why it is common in cleansers meant for delicate skin. This is a functional cleansing ingredient, not a skincare active. Its value is lifting dirt without stressing the barrier and giving a creamy lather at a friendly pH. Amino-acid surfactants are the preferred choice when real gentleness is the goal, with good backing in formulation. Applied topically there is no meaningful systemic absorption, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is excellent: ultra-mild harshness, low irritation and allergy potential, very suitable for sensitive or dry skin. It respects the barrier and rarely leaves a tight feel, which makes it well suited to daily use.
