Linalyl Acetate is an ester of linalool and acetic acid, one of the main scent components of lavender, bergamot, and clary sage essential oils. INCI: Linalyl Acetate. In a formula it does one thing – it gives the product a fresh floral aroma. It is a fragrance component, not a skincare active. It has no action on skin of its own and is added for scent at low concentrations. Allergenicity. Linalyl Acetate is on the list of potential fragrance contact allergens. The fresh molecule is low in activity, but on contact with air it slowly oxidizes, and the oxidation products (as with related linalool) can cause contact allergy in sensitized people. Most people do not react. If fragranced cosmetics have caused a reaction before, introduce such components with care. Pregnancy safety. At cosmetic concentrations systemic absorption is low and there is no evidence of harm with topical use. Irritation potential is low.
