Vinegar (Acetum) is vinegar, a diluted solution of acetic acid. In hair care it is used as an acidic rinse: it lowers the pH of the hair and cuticle, closes the scale, adds smoothness and a natural shine. It also helps remove product buildup. This is a functional, pH-adjusting and finishing ingredient, not a treatment active. Its effect on shine and feel is real but superficial; it does not durably repair damaged fiber. In topical use it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Irritation and allergy potential at cosmetic concentration are low, so it usually suits a sensitive scalp. In very concentrated or undiluted home applications it could irritate or dry the skin; in well balanced commercial formulas most people tolerate it without trouble.
