Maternal vaccination
First line
Maternal RSV immunization. Per CDC ACIP 2024 and SEGO 2024, at 32-36 weeks during RSV season (September-January in Northern Hemisphere). Alternative – nirsevimab (Beyfortus) monoclonal antibody to the infant at birth.
Recombinant protein vaccine, stabilized prefusion F protein

Contains stabilized RSV prefusion F protein subtypes A and B. No adjuvant. The pregnant woman at 32-36 weeks generates IgG to F protein that crosses the placenta and protects the newborn for the first 6 months – the most vulnerable period for severe RSV bronchiolitis. Per MATISSE trial (NEJM 2023), effectiveness against severe infant disease 81.8% in first 3 months and 69.4% in first 6 months.
