Aloe leaf hydrosol. Used as a base in light textures and toners; gives a soothing feel but lacks the activity of aloe juice.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Water phase with 'natural base' marketing positioning. No standalone clinical effect.
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water is a hydrosol obtained by steam distillation of Aloe Barbadensis leaves. Contains only volatile components of aloe – aromatic compounds, trace amounts of low-molecular-weight polysaccharides and amino acids. Active composition is far poorer than juice (gel) or extract. Mechanism. Works as scented water with a mild softening effect from trace amino acids and sugars. No marked standalone activity on skin – unlike concentrated juice (Aloe Vera Juice or Gel). Where applied. Base for light toners, micellar waters, essence sprays, sheet masks. Concentration 50–95% (as a formula base in place of regular water). In K-beauty and eco-cosmetics – a 'water-free, only aloe' marketing angle. In Spain – Sesderma Hidraderm Water Mist, Mesoestetic Hydratonic. Evidence base. No direct RCTs for aloe hydrosol with endpoints. Real skin benefit is similar to thermal water (surface hydration for 10–20 minutes after application). Safety. CIR confirmed safety of aloe derivatives in cosmetics in 2007. Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, non-irritating. Pregnancy and lactation – safe. Acceptable at any stage on any area. Particularly suitable for. Toners and mists in air-conditioned environments, after cleansing, before serum and cream. Do not expect active action from the hydrosol – it is a base, not an active.
