A plant extract. Safe.
Orthosiphon Stamineus Extract (INCI: Orthosiphon Stamineus Extract) comes from the leaves of a plant known as Java tea, rich in flavonoids and phenolic acids. In cosmetics it is added as an antioxidant and conditioning ingredient in soothing and firming formulas. On efficacy, expectations should stay modest. The leaves show antioxidant capacity in vitro, but human skin trials are very limited. It is a supporting ingredient that rounds out a formula, not an active that on its own calms marked redness or visibly firms skin. The evidence is modest. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without concern. Tolerance is good: irritation and allergy potential are low, suitable for sensitive skin. At usual cosmetic doses most people notice no reaction.
