A plant extract. Safe.
Verbena Officinalis Leaf Extract (INCI: Verbena Officinalis Leaf Extract) is an extract from the leaves of common vervain. In cosmetics it is valued for a soothing effect and for supporting a firmer skin feel. It is often part of toners, creams and formulas for reactive skin. On efficacy it is a supporting component. It helps skin comfort and overall look, but the evidence for stronger actions, such as a real firming effect, is limited. It works as a good botanical addition rather than a main active. For topical use it has no systemic relevance and can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation potential and low allergy risk, suitable for sensitive skin. It should be distinguished from verbena essential oils, which are more allergenic; here we mean a leaf extract, generally well tolerated. Even so, with very reactive skin, a prior test of the finished product is a good idea.
