Caprylyl Caprylate/Caprate is a plant-based emollient ester from medium-chain fatty acids. It gives a light feel and a dry slip, replacing heavier oils without a greasy film. This is a functional component, not a skincare active. Its job is texture: it softens the surface, improves spreadability, and helps a pleasant finish. It does not correct wrinkles or pigmentation, and that should not be expected of it. Since it works only at the surface and does not penetrate systemically, its use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is fine. Tolerance is very good, with low irritation potential and low allergy risk, suitable for sensitive skin. Comedogenicity is very low (1), so it rarely causes trouble, though on oily or acne-prone skin it is always worth watching how the whole formula behaves.
