Carrageenan is a polysaccharide obtained from red seaweed. INCI: Carrageenan. In a formula it works as a thickener, gelling agent, and stabilizer: it raises the viscosity of the water phase, forms a gel, keeps components in a uniform structure, and gives a light moisturizing film feel on skin. It is a functional rheology component, not a skincare active. It has no marked action on skin of its own. Pregnancy safety. The large molecule does not penetrate skin, is systemically negligible, and there is no evidence of harm with topical use. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance.
