In a formula it softens the skin and gives a light, dry slip without the greasy feel of many oils, which improves a product's texture. This is a functional emollient ingredient, not a treatment active. It improves the feel and spreadability of a cream and adds a sense of softness, but it does not fix skin concerns on its own. Topically it is not systemically relevant, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without concern. Tolerance is high, with low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Its comedogenicity is very low (level 1), so it rarely causes problems; still, on very oily, acne-prone skin it is worth watching how it responds.
