It softens skin, adds shine and body to the formula and improves color spread, so it often appears in lipsticks, concealers and stick products. This is a functional texture and finish ingredient, not a skincare active. It gives a rich feel and good coverage, but does not treat skin or provide biological benefit. Its role is sensory and structural. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Irritation and allergy are unlikely, so it is generally well tolerated. One caveat applies: with a comedogenicity rating of 2, on oily or acne-prone skin it can contribute to clogged pores, especially in heavy occlusive products.
