It softens skin, adds shine and helps fix and disperse pigments, so it is common in makeup such as foundations, lipsticks and eyeshadows. This is a functional texture and color ingredient, not a skincare active. It gives a rich finish and improves pigment performance, but does not treat skin or offer its own biological benefit. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Irritation and allergy are unlikely, so it is generally well tolerated. One detail is worth noting: with a comedogenicity rating of 2, on oily or acne-prone skin it can encourage clogged pores, especially in dense, covering formulas.
