BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
A functional emollient and emulsifier. Safe.
Olive oil glycereth-8 esters (INCI: Olive Oil Glycereth-8 Esters) are an olive oil derivative modified to become partly water-soluble. In a formula it works as both emollient and emulsifier: it joins the oil phase with the water phase and leaves a soft, non-heavy feel. This is a functional structural component, not a skincare active. It provides sensoriality and emulsion stability; the product's real effectiveness depends on other ingredients, not this one. It inherits part of olive oil's emollient profile, which improves the texture's comfort. For topical use there is no systemic risk. It can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential, fine for sensitive skin. Its comedogenicity is very low (1) and it does not dry the skin.
