Silk Amino Acids is a silk hydrolysate, a mix of low-molecular-weight amino acids. It draws water into the skin, leaves it smoother and gives a silky feel and soft finish, which is why it appears in moisturisers and hair care. This is a support ingredient rather than an active with firm backing. It works as a humectant and conditioning agent: the light hydration and silky feel are real, but do not expect effects on wrinkles or pigment. Useful as a pleasant add-on within a moisturising formula. Applied topically there is no meaningful systemic absorption, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Protein hydrolysates rarely cause a skin reaction; with very reactive skin or a known protein allergy, a patch test first stays sensible.
