Hydrolyzed silk (INCI Hydrolyzed Silk) is a silk protein broken into small peptides to make it water-soluble. In a formula it acts as a surface humectant: it draws water and leaves skin and hair soft, with a silky feel. This is a conditioning and surface-hydration component, not a corrective active. It improves feel and immediate smoothness but does not plump, firm or repair the barrier in depth. Its effect is textural, real but modest. Applied topically it is not systemically relevant, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without issue. Tolerability is good. Irritation and allergy potential are both low, suitable for sensitive skin. There is no data on relevant comedogenicity.
