BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
A humectant algae extract. Safe.
Hydrolyzed Ulva lactuca extract (INCI: Hydrolyzed Ulva Lactuca Extract) comes from the green alga known as sea lettuce. Hydrolysis breaks its large molecules into smaller fragments, which makes them easier to use in a formula. It supplies polysaccharides that help hold water, so it works as a humectant and soothing ingredient. On efficacy it acts as a hydration-support component. Its effect is in line with light humectants such as glycerin; it is not a transformative active, but it adds comfort and a moisture film to the formula. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good and the allergy potential is low. It fits sensitive skin. As with any marine extract, in already sensitized people a reaction can appear, though it is uncommon.
