Hydrolyzed red algae extract (INCI Hydrolyzed Rhodophyceae Extract) comes from seaweed of the Rhodophyta division processed by hydrolysis. In a formula it draws water into the skin and adds a soothing element, useful in moisturizers and products for reactive skin. This is a surface-hydration and soothing-support component, not a treatment active. Algal polysaccharides hold water and give a feeling of comfort but do not repair the barrier or correct in depth. As support it does the job; do not expect a strong corrective effect. Applied topically it is not systemically relevant, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without issue. Tolerability is good. Irritation and allergy potential are both low, suitable for sensitive and reactive skin. There is no data on relevant comedogenicity.
