Sodium chondroitin sulfate (INCI: Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate) is a glycosaminoglycan-type polysaccharide, a relative of hyaluronic acid. In a formula it works as a humectant and texture agent: it holds water on the surface, gives a smoother feel and softens how the product handles. As an active it is a capable humectant, but it does not cross the epidermis to repair deeper structures; its effect is surface hydration and immediate comfort. It does that job well, with no anti-aging outcome to credit it from topical use. There is no meaningful systemic absorption through skin, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is very good, with low irritation and allergy potential. It suits sensitive skin and rarely causes a reaction.
