Batyl alcohol (INCI: Batyl Alcohol) is a fatty ether of glycerol, found naturally in some fats. Despite the name, it does not behave like a drying alcohol: it acts as an emollient and as an aid to cream consistency. This is a functional component with emollient value. It softens skin, improves product texture and adds body to emulsions. It is not a treatment active, but it fills its emollient and structural role well and pleasantly to the touch. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation potential and low allergy risk, suitable for sensitive skin. Its comedogenicity is very low, level 1, so it rarely causes trouble even on oil-prone skin. Unlike volatile alcohols, it does not dry; on the contrary, it leaves skin softer.
