A functional plant resin. Safe.
Shorea Robusta Resin is a plant resin from the sal tree (Shorea robusta). In cosmetics it structures the oil phase, gives body to sticks and balms and brings a soft feel to the skin. It shows up in lip products and rich formulas. It works mainly as a structural component and a supporting emollient, not as an active with proven efficacy. It gives consistency and a soft finish; any sense of comfort comes from the occlusive and emollient effect, not from a corrective action. The evidence base for a specific benefit is thin. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerability is good, with low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. As with any resin or plant extract, someone already sensitised to this material could react, though most people will not.
