Cucumis Sativus Fruit Extract is derived from the common cucumber Cucumis sativus. 95% water, the rest – small amounts of vitamin C, caffeic acid, ascorbic acid, silicon, folate. Mechanism. Main role in formulas is humectant and cooling. Caffeic and ascorbic acids give a mild antioxidant effect; silicon indirectly supports collagen synthesis. On real human skin the effect remains mostly superficial and toning. Where applied. Masks, eye patches, toners, after-sun gels, cooling serums, products for sensitive skin. In Spain – mass-market lines Garnier, L'Oréal, Mercadona Deliplus, Klorane Concombre, Caudalie Vinopure. Evidence base. Few clinical RCTs on topical use. Mukherjee 2013 review confirmed a mild humectant and anti-inflammatory effect in vitro. The folk practice of placing fresh cucumber slices on the eyelids has mostly a cooling and psychologically calming effect. Safety. Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, excellently tolerated. CIR confirmed extract safety in cosmetic use. Allergic reactions are extremely rare (mainly in patients with severe melon and zucchini allergies – same family). Pregnancy and lactation – safe. No restrictions. Best suited to: sensitive, dehydrated skin, eye area care, post-procedure soothing, after-sun products. A marketing-strong but actually mild ingredient – within a multi-component formula.
