Dimethyl Phenylpropanol is an aromatic alcohol listed in INCI under the same name. It has two jobs in a formula: it works as a gentle preservative that helps keep the product free of bacteria, and thanks to its pleasant scent it adds to the fragrance. It usually appears at low levels. This is a functional component, not a skincare active. It does not hydrate or renew skin on its own; its role is to protect the formula and give it an aroma. Do not expect a visible effect on wrinkles or pigmentation, since that is not what it does. Used on the skin, its systemic risk is essentially nil, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without concern. Tolerance is high. Irritation and allergy potential are both low, which makes it suitable for sensitive skin. Most people see no reaction, though any fragrance component may bother very reactive skin.
