Soybean protein is obtained from the seeds of Glycine soja. INCI: Glycine Soja (Soybean) Protein. In a formula it works as a conditioning and moisturizing component: it forms a thin film on skin, holds water, gives a feel of smoothness and temporary tightening, and carries soy amino acids and antioxidants. Soy is credited with anti-aging and brightening properties, but these are better studied for concentrated isoflavones, while plain protein has a more modest effect. It is a supporting component. Pregnancy safety. Topical use is systemically negligible, with no evidence of harm. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance. Irritation potential is low. With a marked soy allergy it is introduced with caution.
