Phospholipid from soy or sunflower raw materials, hydrogenated for greater stability. Works as an emulsifier and integrates into the skin lipid barrier.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Phospholipids form part of cell membranes, so the skin tolerates hydrogenated lecithin well. No large standalone RCTs exist.
Hydrogenated Lecithin is a phospholipid mixture from soy or sunflower raw material, saturated with hydrogen for greater oxidative stability. Main component – phosphatidylcholine, structurally close to skin cell membranes. Mechanism. Acts as a "liquid-crystal" emulsifier – forms lamellar structures resembling natural intercellular lipids of the stratum corneum. This helps it integrate into the lipid barrier and hold water within it. The hydrogenated form resists oxidation and avoids a soy odor. Where applied. Barrier-repair creams, products for atopic and sensitive skin, post-procedure care, liposomal serums (0.5-5%). In Spain in La Roche-Posay Toleriane, Eucerin AtopiControl, Sesderma Atopises. Evidence base. Topical phosphatidylcholine improves skin barrier function and reduces TEWL – shown in Ghyczy 2001 and Korting 1995. Direct clinical RCTs on the hydrogenated form specifically are few; data are extrapolated from lecithin in general. Safety. CIR rated lecithin and its hydrogenated form safe at current concentrations (2001, re-evaluated 2017). Allergy is rare; theoretical risk in patients with severe soy allergy – with pure raw material residual proteins are removed. Sunflower-derived variant is preferable in soy-sensitized patients. Pregnancy – safe topically. Lactation – no topical-use data, but absorption is minimal.

The Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Hydrogenated Lecithin is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
