Imperata Cylindrica Root Extract is the extract from the root of cogon grass (alang-alang), a herb that grows in dry regions. It is known for its potassium content and compounds that attract and hold water, so it is used as a humectant ingredient to reinforce skin hydration. As an active it supports hydration. The idea that it helps retain water has a coherent basis, though specific clinical data are limited and much of the backing comes from the supplier. Useful as a complementary humectant in serums and creams, not as a treatment active that corrects specific signs. For topical use it is not meaningfully absorbed, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without restriction. Tolerance is good: irritation and allergy potential are low, with no comedogenicity rating. It suits sensitive skin and oily skin too, since it gives hydration without a heavy texture.
