It makes their particles hydrophobic, which helps disperse them evenly and keeps the color or sun protection stable and water-resistant. It is a functional component, not a care active. It works on other ingredients, not on skin: improving dispersion, coverage and product durability. On its own it does not hydrate or treat, so it is best read as a formulation aid. It is inert on skin and has no systemic uptake topically, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is high: low irritation potential and low allergy risk, fine for sensitive skin. It adds no relevant comedogenic load in normal use.
