Lactoperoxidase (INCI Lactoperoxidase) is an enzyme that is part of natural preservation systems in cosmetics, often combined with glucose oxidase. It generates compounds that limit microbial growth and helps keep the formula in good condition. It should be framed correctly: this is a functional component aimed at preservation, not a skincare active. It protects the product from within and gives no direct cosmetic benefit on the skin. Its usefulness lies in extending formula stability and reducing the load of classic preservatives. Topically it lacks systemic relevance, so it is compatible with pregnancy and breastfeeding. Its tolerance profile is good: low irritation and low allergy risk. It is used in low concentrations and usually goes unnoticed by the skin.
