Tropolone is an organic compound with antimicrobial and chelating properties. INCI: Tropolone. In a formula it works as part of the preservation system and a stabilizer: it suppresses microbial growth and binds trace metal ions that speed up formula spoilage. It is a functional component, not a skincare active. Research also notes tyrosinase inhibition by tropolone, but in cosmetics its main role is protective rather than brightening. Pregnancy safety. At preservation-system concentrations, topical use is systemically negligible, with no evidence of harm. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance.
