Mild nonionic co-surfactant and refatting agent in cleansers. Reduces the degreasing effect of primary surfactants and restores skin comfort after washing.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
One of the mildest co-surfactants. Skin reactions are rare; suitable for sensitive skin.
PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate is a nonionic surfactant derivative produced by esterifying glycerin with coconut fatty acids and ethoxylating the result with 7 ethylene oxide units. INCI: PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate. Its main function is refatting and conditioning in shampoos, body washes, and micellar waters. It softens the drying effect of primary surfactants (SLES, cocamidopropyl betaine) and leaves a light conditioning film on the skin. Typical use concentration is 1% to 5%. Pregnancy safety. PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate is considered safe during pregnancy. Systemic absorption through intact skin is minimal, exposure in cleansers is brief by design. CIR confirms safety for rinse-off products. Skin safety. Low irritation and low allergen risk. Often added specifically to lower overall irritation in a formula. Non-comedogenic in finished products. On 1,4-dioxane. As with every PEG derivative, trace 1,4-dioxane is possible. Current regulators cap residual levels and reputable manufacturers add purification. Finished-product risk is minimal. Compared with glyceryl oleate. Glyceryl oleate is a PEG-free alternative with similar conditioning, but it dissolves poorly in shampoos and body washes and usually needs extra emulsification. PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate is easier to formulate. Bottom line. PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate is a gentle cofactor in cleansers. Pregnancy-safe, lowers the irritation potential of base surfactants, non-comedogenic.
