Lauramide DEA is a coconut-derived amide that works as a co-surfactant and foam thickener. In gels and shampoos it stabilizes bubbles, gives the formula body, and improves product texture. This is a functional ingredient, not a skincare active. It does not hydrate or treat signs of aging; its role is technical, around foam and viscosity. For topical use it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. At usual cosmetic levels tolerance is good. Irritation and allergy risk are low. Like any surfactant of moderate harshness, in heavily loaded cleansers it can add some dryness, but for most people it causes no trouble. This is a secondary or tertiary amine. With nitrosating preservatives (bronopol and similar) or their impurities it can form carcinogenic nitrosamines, so that pairing in a formula is undesirable. On its own, without a nitrosating agent, the nitrosamine concern does not apply.
