Glucose oxidase (INCI Glucose Oxidase) is an enzyme used in cosmetics as part of a natural preservation system. It catalyzes the oxidation of glucose and generates hydrogen peroxide in situ, which helps slow microbial growth inside the product. Its role should not be misread: this is a functional formula component, not a skincare active. It works to protect the product against contamination, and on the end user's skin it gives no cosmetic effect of its own. Its value lies in formula stability and safety, not in a visible benefit. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so its presence is compatible with pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation potential and low allergy risk. It is used in small amounts and rarely causes discomfort.
