Isosorbide dicaprylate (INCI Isosorbide Dicaprylate) is an ester of plant-derived isosorbide and caprylic acid. It plays two roles in a formula: it works as a solvent that helps dissolve actives and poorly soluble filters, and as an emollient that leaves skin soft with a light, non-greasy feel. On efficacy, this is a functional component, not a care active. It improves the texture and solubility of other ingredients and adds softness, but it does not address specific skin concerns, so it is best judged by its technical role. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential. Its comedogenicity is minimal (level 1), so on oily or acne-prone skin the risk of clogging pores is very low, though worth keeping in mind.
