In a formula it softens the skin, gives a silky, non-greasy feel, and can help disperse other oily ingredients. It is a functional ingredient with an emollient and sensory role, not a treatment active. It does not fix wrinkles or pigmentation; it adds texture and comfort to the product. In that role it performs well and is handy as a light substitute for silicones or heavier oils. Applied topically it is not meaningfully absorbed, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is high, with low irritation potential and low allergy risk. Its comedogenic rating is very low (1), so it suits combination or oily-prone skin as well.
