Ground pearl powder historically used in Chinese and Korean traditional medicine. In modern cosmetics it is a marketing ingredient for 'radiant skin' and a decorative filler in powders and illuminating creams. It consists mostly of calcium carbonate (95%) and conchiolin protein. No evidence base for an anti-age effect.

Pearl Powder (Hydrolyzed Pearl) is finely milled natural pearl or hydrolyzed pearl. Composition: calcium carbonate (80–90%), conchiolin (5–14%, protein), trace elements (magnesium, zinc, copper). Mechanism. Claimed anti-aging effect through collagen synthesis stimulation (conchiolin contains amino acids – proline, glycine). Light-scattering properties of calcium carbonate create a visual glow effect. Where applied. Premium creams and serums, foundations, powders, anti-aging cosmetics. Concentration 0.5–5%. In China and Korea – the basis of traditional premium cosmetics. In Spain – in niche lines. Evidence base. Few human topical clinical RCTs. Most studies are on animal models.
