It appears in serums, emulsions and cleansers as a formulation aid. On efficacy: this is a functional ingredient, not a skincare active. It does not act on skin by itself; its job is to solubilize and make components compatible so the rest of the formula works. In that supporting role it does well. It is topical, with no meaningful systemic absorption. It can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. As a solubilizer at usual concentrations it is well tolerated on intact skin.
