About this ingredient
Kombucha ferment is the product of fermenting black tea (Camellia sinensis) with a symbiotic culture of Saccharomyces yeast and Komagataeibacter xylinus acetic bacteria. INCI: Saccharomyces/Xylinum/Black Tea Ferment. Contains tea polyphenols, organic acids (gluconic, acetic), microbial metabolites and B vitamins. In cosmetics it works as an antioxidant and a mild exfoliant – the ferment pH is acidic and gives a feeling of freshness. Used in essences, toners and serums, especially in K-beauty. Use levels run from 1 to 10%. Pregnancy safety. Skin absorption into the systemic circulation is minimal. Topically safe. Skin profile. Low irritation potential. Low allergen risk. Non-comedogenic. Suitable for all skin types. Weak evidence (C) – marketing often inflates the effects.
