Its job in a formula is to absorb ultraviolet light to protect light-sensitive actives, colorants and fragrances from photodamage, so the product does not lose color or efficacy in the light. It is a functional component, not a sunscreen filter for skin and not a care active. Worth making clear: it does not protect your skin from the sun. Its work is to protect the formula itself inside the package. Anyone seeking sun protection needs a sunscreen with approved UV filters.
