In a formula it works as a thickener, stabilizer, and water absorbent: it binds large amounts of water, gives gels and creams a springy smooth texture, and keeps components suspended. It is a functional rheology component, not a skincare active. Pregnancy safety. The polymer does not penetrate skin, is systemically negligible, and there is no evidence of harm.
