Synthetic Fluorphlogopite (synthetic mica) is a lab-grown analogue of natural mica. Made by high-temperature synthesis from silicon, magnesium, aluminium oxides and fluorine. More uniform and cleaner than natural mica – no heavy-metal impurities. Mechanism. Mica platelets reflect and refract light, creating a pearlescent shimmer. Substrate for pigments (titanium, iron-oxide coatings) – the 'effect pigments' in highlighters, eyeshadows, powders. Where applied. Colour cosmetics (highlighters, eyeshadows, glossy lipsticks, powders), some 'glow' sunscreens. Almost absent from skincare. Advantage over natural mica: guaranteed absence of lead, mercury, arsenic – important for children's and sensitive lines. Safety. CIR confirmed safety at all concentrations.
