Eucalyptus Oil (INCI: Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf/Twig Oil) is an essential oil rich in eucalyptol (1,8-cineole). In cosmetics it brings a fresh aroma and a cooling sensation to gels, foot products, and balm-type formulas. Its role is mainly sensory and aromatic. It is not a skincare active: the cold sensation is perceived, not a real dermatological benefit. It is best viewed as a fragrance ingredient with a refreshing touch. Topically at cosmetic doses it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Even so, essential oils are best avoided over large areas or at high concentration. Overall tolerance is reasonable, but as an essential oil it carries a medium contact-allergy potential: in sensitized people a reaction is possible. Most people get no discomfort, though very reactive skin should be cautious.
