Tabebuia impetiginosa bark extract, known as pau d'arco or lapacho (INCI: Tabebuia Impetiginosa Bark Extract), is a plant extract rich in naphthoquinones and other polyphenols. In a formula it is used as a soothing agent. On efficacy, it is a supporting component. The bark carries compounds with lab antioxidant activity, which gives some logic to its use for calming skin, but independent clinical data in cosmetics are limited. Expect a moderate softening effect rather than a potent action. Applied topically it has no systemic impact, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential. It does not clog pores and suits sensitive skin.
